Chamber auction benefits programs

The Kona-Kohala Chamber of Commerce opened the annual Bid for Hawaii online auction Friday, Nov. 27, to market products and services from local businesses.

Items range from hotel stays and spa experiences to helicopter tours, ocean activities and land excursions around the Big Island. Gift certificates to local eateries, theater tickets and even hauling services are offered to the highest bidder.

Bidders can place their offers online or buy the item outright at a given price at www.biddingforgood.com/bidforhawaii. The auction ends at noon Dec. 7. Proceeds fund chamber programs and services that support the local economy.

Kid’s art workshop offered in Waimea

Parker School invites kids in grade 2 through 8 to Santa’s Elves Workshop, an after-school art class held in the art studio at Parker School. Kids will create more than 20 high-quality handmade holiday gifts from Parker School Art Instructor Heidi Buscher. Crafters will work with ceramics, pottery, acrylic and watercolor paint, mixed media, jewelry and edible art.

As part of the school’s Enrichment and Community Programs, three sessions of Santa’s Elves Workshop are available. Session 1 is from Wednesday Dec. 3, session 2 from Dec. 7-11 and session 3 from Dec. 14-18. Each workshop is from 3 to 5:30 p.m.

The price for a five-day workshop is $100 or $25 if attending per day. Kids do not need to attend Parker School to attend. Space is limited. Sign up: Heidi Buscher, hbuscher@parkerschoolhawaii.org.

Hawaii Energy offers energy-saving kits

Hawaii Energy is offering two energy-saving kits to electric utility ratepayers of Hawaii, Honolulu and Maui counties. Customers may choose from a free home energy kit, upgrade and purchase the $10 home energy kit, or get both.

The free home energy kit contains three energy-efficient A19 LED bulbs (60 watt equivalent), which is valued at $25. The kit is estimated to save a household about $15 each year in electricity or the equivalent of 58.5 kilowatt hours based on $0.25 per kilowatt hour.

The $10 home energy kit contains an advanced power strip and 3 LED BR30 bulbs, which is valued at $53. The kit is estimated to save a family about $40 annually or the equivalent of 161.3 kilowatt hours. The bulbs in this kit are typically used in track and recessed fixtures.

Kona Elks outlines December schedule

Kona Elks Club has planned several events:

A date with dinner night will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Dec. 4. The event includes music by Kona Riders and a meal with choice of steak, chicken or fish and side dishes for $20. Reservations are required by Thursday. Call 329-2616.

Those who have died during the year will be remembered during the annual Elks Memorial Day at 11 a.m. Dec. 6. The event includes brunch and music by Freddy and Friends. Cost is $17. Reservations are required.

Tom’s build your own burgers will be served from 5 to 7:30 p.m.

The club Christmas party is at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 19. Wellington beef will be served for $33 and Kona Angels will perform from 6 to 9 p.m. Reserve a spot early.
